Description:
SAAB 37 Viggen is a completely scale-scale model! The kit consists of only CNC-milled balsa and plywood parts, which gives a very good fit. The hood is vacuum-formed in clear plastic, the intake is also made of vacuum-formed plastic and the motor tube is made of plastic. The above, together with the included construction jig, guarantees the correct shape of the model. The construction description is very detailed (107 pages in Swedish or English) and is written to be able to guide most builders.
The kit is easily adaptable to most versions of Viggen as the length of the jig can be adjusted and both the YES / SK and AJ (/ S / SF / SH) fin are included.
The model is equipped with several scale details, such as pitot tubes, weapon beams, cannon and basic cockpit. Installation of a retractable landing gear is possible when space for these is set aside. Decals not included.
The original:
In February 1961, Saab was instructed to begin work on the Saab 37 Viggen. In September of the following year, the Defense Committee proposed that no less than 831 aircraft be ordered, which was eventually reduced to a total of 329 delivered copies in the variants hunting, attack, reconnaissance and training aircraft. On February 8, 1967, Viggen (test aircraft 37-1) flew for the first time and four years later, on February 23, the first mass-produced Viggen took off. The last Viggen plane was delivered on June 29, 1990.
Starting in 1992, 115 AJ37, SF37 and SH37 were modified to a new variant called AJS (F, H) 37.
The last flight under the auspices of the Swedish Air Force took place on 25 November 2005.
